Carol Ann Watters

July 31, 1931 — January 4, 2022

Mrs. Carol Ann Mathis Watters, age 90, of Rome, GA passed away peacefully at her home with her 2 daughters, Gail and Becky by her side.
Carol was born July 31, 1931, daughter of the late Robert Daniel Mathis and the late Rhoda Rebecca Yates Mathis.
Carol loved singing, especially Christian hymns. At the age of 14, she along with 3 other girls sang on the radio before a service of one of the local ministers. She also that same year was hired for her first job as a clerk at Kress Company. She graduated from Girls High School in 1948 and immediately went to work at the Eagle Stove Works as a bookkeeper, where she met the love of her life, James Mark, marrying on February 3, 1951. Upon leaving the Eagle, she went to work at Social Security as a DRT. In 1972, she, her husband, the late James Mark Watters, Sr., and son, the late James Mark Watters, Jr., “Mike”, opened Ivy House Florist from which she retired.
Carol Ann, as she was called by family and friends, will be remembered for her wit, wisdom, her expertise in writing and spelling. She will be remembered best for her love of Jesus Christ, her Savior. Carol Ann received Jesus as her personal Savior on December 7, 1941, in a Sunday School classroom at Calvary Baptist Church. She joined and was baptized at her beloved Maple Street Baptist Church, later Second Avenue Baptist Church, in 1949. She loved teaching Sunday School, especially to the 7-year-old children. She led all 3 of her children, and her husband James, to know Jesus as their personal Savior.
Carol Ann is survived by 2 daughters, Rhonda Gail and Edna Rebecca Watters. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters.
There will be no visitation; private interment. A Memorial service will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be made to Second Avenue Baptist Church, 823 East Second Avenue, Rome, GA 30161 or to the Gideons International Ministry, P.O. Box 648, Summerville, GA 30747 in memory of Carol Ann.
