Charles L. Evans a lifetime resident of Floyd County and the Rosedale community departed from this earth and went home to heaven to be with the Lord on Friday, December 26, 2025, at a local healthcare facility. This obituary was written by Mr. Charles L. Evans, himself.

Mr. Evans was born in Floyd County Georgia on September 27, 1936, son of the late Charles Albert Evans and the late Ruby Lee Lynch Evans. He was also preceded in death by his much loved and caring wife with whom he enjoyed 62 years of marriage, Eva Elaine Evans; and by one sister, Joyce Waits.

The most important people in Charles's life were his family, especially his cherished wife and best friend Elaine. He and Elaine were married at a very young age. On Sunday April 1,1956 they attended church and after the service got in their car and eloped. She stayed by his side through their marriage with steadfast faithfulness. Together they raised one loving daughter, Debbie K Smoker.

Charles loved his church, the New Hope Baptist Church located in the Rosedale community where he and his wife were lifelong members. They loved to sing specials at the Sunday morning services. He also served as music director and was an ordained deacon for several years. He was blessed to have traveled and present God's message in song for 17 years with his wife and the Crossroads Singers, a southern gospel group that they formed in the early 1980s. They made a lot of lifelong friendships through their musical ministry. Charles and his wife enjoyed traveling, St. Simons Island and Nashville were some of their favorite destinations. At St. Simons they enjoyed eating at Barbara Jean's Restaurant on Malley Street and spending time at the pier talking and reminiscing with friends. In Nashville they loved staying at the Opryland Hotel especially at Christmas time and taking a dinner cruise on the general Jackson riverboat. Traveling with "his love" as he would say "made the trip." Mr. Evans was employed by Floyd County Public Works Department for 42 years where he enjoyed the friendship of all his coworkers. He started his career there as a heavy equipment operator then later moved into the role as Supervisor of Road Construction and Paving. While employed with Floyd County he was a member of the American Public Works Association, Georgia Chapter where before his retirement, he served on the Board of Directors. He sincerely loved the American flag (old glory) and what it stands for.

Mr. Evans left behind one caring and loving daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Mike Smoker, of Sugar Valley, GA: One much loved and adored grandson, Joshua Smoker and his wife Nicole, of Marietta Georgia; one "precious granddaughter" BJ Huckabee of Rome, Georgia; also surviving several cousins, nieces and nephews and one special nephew, Rod Baker who was loving caregiver to him after the loss of his dear wife.

In compliance with his wishes, he is to be cremated and no service will be held.

Those who wish to extend condolences are urged to make a donation to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.
