Clarence Lewis Johnston

Clarence Lewis Johnston, age 71, of Rome, passed away Wednesday morning, February 6, 2013 at a Rome hospital.

A native of Gordon County, Lewis was born on May 24, 1941, the son of the late William Louis "W.L." Johnston who preceded him in death on October 13, 2012 and the late Rilla Mae Ellis Johnston who preceded him in death in 2008. He was a 1959 graduate of Model High School and was a veteran, having served in the United States Army. Lewis had lived the greater part of his life in Rome and Floyd County and was of the Baptist Faith. Prior to his retirement, Lewis was associated with Atlanta Gas Light Company of Rome for 31 years having retired as a service supervisor. For many years Lewis enjoyed rebuilding automobiles and was the owner of Lewis Johnston Motors. Lewis loved his family and loved helping his friends and neighbors and loved the outdoors.

Lewis is survived by his wife, Linda Moore Johnston, to whom he was married on May 24, 1968; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kim Johnston Tucker and her husband, Lane, of Armuchee, GA, and Christy Johnston Lowe and her husband, Tripp, of Athens, GA; two sons, Bradley Lewis Johnston, Sr., and Mark Laney Johnston, both of Rome; five grandchildren, Kristin Tucker, Kelsey Tucker, Baylee Lowe, Brennan Lowe and Bradley Lewis Johnston, Jr. and his best friend for more than 35 years, Wayne Ray, of Cartersville and 1 brother, W.G. Johnston of Rome. Nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Clarence Lewis Johnston will be held on Saturday afternoon, February 9, 2013, at 3:00 p.m. in the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with the Reverend Jeff Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot of the Oostanaula United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The following will serve as active pallbearers, Wayne Ray, Charles Weedon, Ronnie McStotts,
Michael Dial, Lane Tucker and Tripp Lowe.

Mr. Johnston will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel Funeral Home where the family will receive friends on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour.
