Mr. Clinton Clayborn Payne, age 93, of Rome, Georgia, peacefully passed away on September 16, 2025, in Cedartown, Georgia at Cedar Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born on August 30, 1932, Clinton lived a life marked by service, dedication, and love for his family.
Clinton proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, a commitment that shaped his character and instilled in him a sense of duty that extended far beyond his military service. Following his tenure in the Marines, he dedicated many years to a successful career as a painter at Lockheed Martin, where his skill and work ethic garnered respect from peers and superiors alike.
Outside of his professional life, Clinton was a multifaceted individual with many interests. He had a passion for travel, exploring new destinations and creating lifelong memories along the way. An accomplished entrepreneur, he owned and operated Clint Payne Motors Auto, Body and Paint, thriving in the automotive industry while showcasing his love for cars.
Clinton was deeply involved in his community and held membership in various organizations, including the Shriners and the Optimist Club, where he contributed his time and talents toward making a positive impact.
He is survived by his two grandsons, Justin Ditlefsen and Damon Ditlefsen as well as his caring brother, Earl Payne; and several friends from the Cedar Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Clinton was preceded in death by his daughter, Belinda Payne; parents, Oscar and Louise Watts Tippin, and twelve brothers and sisters, all of whom he cherished deeply throughout his life including: Richard, Betty, Elaine, Ellen, Margaret, Earl, Johnny, Billy, Roy and Troy.
Memorial Services to honor and celebrate the life of Mr. Payne will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2025 at 12:00 PM in the chapel of Salmon Funeral Home & Crematory.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, October 2, 2025 from 10:00 AM until the service begins at 12:00 PM. Following the service, inurnment will take place at the Georgia National Cemetery on Thursday October 2, 2025 at 3:00 PM.
Clinton Clayborn Payne's legacy of service, commitment to his family, and zest for life will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
