Daniel Herbert, 72, of Cave Spring, Georgia, passed away peacefully at his home on August 21, 2026. He was born in Georgia on September 18, 1953.

Dan lived a life shared with the people he loved. For the last 13 years, he and his wife, Deborah “Debbie” Simpson, built a life together, marrying just over four years ago. After both had experienced difficult relationships in their earlier years, they found in one another something neither had to take for granted—a love that was steady, genuine, and lasting. Together, they found their happily ever after.

In his earlier years, Dan was known as a “good ol’ boy”—a little rough around the edges and very much his own man. As the years passed, those who knew him came to know the kindness beneath that rough exterior. He was a good-natured man with an easy smile and a warmth that he showed freely to those around him. Above all, his love for his family continued to grow throughout his life.

While Dan was a man of few words when it came to expressing himself, the love he shared with Debbie was unmistakable. Even in his final days, when pain had taken much from him, he still wanted his wife close. He wanted her sitting beside him, holding him, and simply being there with him. That quiet tenderness was a reflection of the bond they shared throughout their years together.

Dan was a proud Georgia Bulldogs fan, and his loyalty to the Dawgs was something those who knew him could always count on. Go Dawgs!

Dan loved his children, Eric Herbert and Dolly Brundidge, beyond measure. He is also survived by his wife, Deborah “Debbie” Simpson; his siblings, Dale Herbert, Tommy Herbert, and Diane Brady; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his stepchildren, Joey Simpson, Alice Sutton, and Christina Tucker; and the many family members and friends whose lives he touched.

Dan’s life was not defined by titles or accomplishments, but by the people he loved and the relationships he built along the way. He was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and part of a family that grew to include many more people over the years. He leaves behind memories of his smile, his good nature, his love for his family, and the simple moments that mattered most.

He was loved, he was wanted, and he will be missed.
