Denise Ann Mathis Carter, age 64, of Silver Creek, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2025, at a local hospital.
Denise was born on September 28, 1961, daughter of the late Wade Mathis, and the late Helen Bryson Mathis. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Michael Ownbey.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 19 years, Jimmy Carter; daughters, Brittany Walker (Clint) and Hannah Kirby (Eric); son, Quintin Carter (Brittney); and 11 cherished grandchildren — Abby Arias (Jose), Shiloh Walker, Christian Weatherby, Levi Walker, Brantley Carter, Cayden Weatherby, Annelyse Kirby, Ava Kirby, Easton Carter, Emmalyn Carter, and Eli Kirby. She was also blessed with one great-grandson, Leo Arias. She is lovingly remembered by her brothers, Gary Mathis (Mark) of North Carolina, Mickey Ownbey of Cartersville, her sister, Dianne Morrow (Don) of Florida, and a host of nieces and nephews who adored her.
Denise loved her husband, children, grandchildren, family, friends, and church family with all her heart. She enjoyed shopping, singing, and spending time with loved ones. Yard sales were one of her favorite pastimes, and she took great pride in her beautiful plants and flowers. Denise had a special love for her dogs, especially her spoiled Yorkies, Lexie and Bo.
She was a faithful member of Her Wax Baptist Church, where she deeply admired Pastor Gary Diggs and his wife. Denise was active in the children's ministry for many years, and the children adored "Ms. Denise." Known for her kind heart, gentle spirit, and joyful outlook on life, she was a prayer warrior and a great listener who touched the lives of everyone she met. Denise will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral services are being planned and will be announced here as soon as they are finalized. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the funeral home to assist with their funeral costs. Donations may be made in person, via phone, or on our website through the Services Tab and the Payment Center.
