Dorothy 'Dot' Black Headrick, age 93, of Rome, GA, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2025, in Rome, Georgia. Dot was a beloved matriarch whose presence brightened the lives of all who knew her.
Dot was born on April 4, 1932, in Cherokee County, Alabama. Throughout her life, Dot was known for her unwavering dedication to her family and community. She worked alongside her husband, Winfred Lee 'Blackie' Headrick, at Piggly Wiggly where he was the manager, and she worked in the meat and seafood departments. Together, they built a life rooted in love and hard work, raising a family that reflects their values.
Dot was a talented cook, renowned for her ability to create delicious meals that brought her family together every Sunday, a cherished tradition she maintained until the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic. Her love for cooking was matched only by her affection for gardening, sewing, and caring for pets. She could often be found tending to her garden or crafting beautiful quilts, some made from her children's childhood clothing, showcasing her creativity and resourcefulness. Dot and her husband enjoyed watching the Braves play baseball, creating cherished memories together. Her devotion to her family extended to her grand and great-grandchildren, whom she adored and loved to spoil. Dot also enjoyed spending time at her family farm in Cave Spring, where many memorable gatherings took place.
She was a proud member of Lakeview Baptist Church, where she was deeply committed to her faith and community, attending church regularly and participating actively in church activities. She embodied unconditional love and compassion, always ready to help those in need.
Dot is survived by her four children: Susan Gordon, Sandra Cookston (Brett), Janet Blankenship (Tommy), and Mark Headrick; grandchildren, Abra Gordon (Calvin), Ashley Blake (Shane), Will Gordon (Katie), and Patrick Blankenship, as well as her great-grandchildren, Chanden, Britton, Aden, Callen, Addison (Robbie), Sarah, Brileigh, and Grayson.
