Edna Carver Gaines, age 81, of #473 Pinson Road, NE, Rome, Georgia passed away early Friday morning, December 3rd, 2010 at the residence.

A native of Bartow County, Georgia, Mrs. Gaines was born on March 10th, 1929, the daughter of the late Henry Clay Carver, Sr. and the late Ruby Pinson Carver. She was a member of the Enon Baptist Church, the Senior Adult Sunday School Class and the W.M.U. For a number of years Mrs. Gaines owned and operated Edna's Beauty Shop at her home and was a long time volunteer at Redmond Regional Medical Center where she was awarded the Dr. Thomas F. Frist Humanitarian Award in 2001. Mrs. Gaines was preceded in death by her twin brother, Edward Ralph Carver and 4 sisters, Eunice Davis, Beatrice Barrett, Lucille Baggett and Gladys McCarley.

Survivors include her husband, Milton D. Gaines to whom she was married on December 24th, 1949; a daughter, Nancy Gaines of Salisbury, N.C.; a son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Stacy Gaines of Stone Mountain, GA.; 3 grandchildren, James Hoffman, Anna Gaines and Lewis Gaines also survive as do 3 brothers, Henry Clay Carver, Jr., George Carver and Elmus Carver all of Adairsville, GA. Nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Edna Carver Gaines will be held this (Sunday) afternoon, December 5th, 2010 at 3 o'clock at the Enon Baptist Church with Dr. Bill Dempsey and Mr. Alex Mills officiating with eulogies given by family members. Interment will follow in the family lot of Salmon Cemetery. Mrs. Gaines will lie-in-state at the church today from 2 until 3 o'clock.

Mrs. Gaines will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family received friends on Saturday from 4 until 6 o'clock. At other hours they will be at the residence.

The following will serve as active pallbearers, Don Gaines, Leonard White, Paul Autry, Chuck Hicks, Barry Simmons and Bobby Baggett. Nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers.
