Evelyn Louise Cockrill

April 3, 1920 — September 8, 2010

Evelyn Simmons Cockrill, age 90, of Rome and a former long time resident of the Glenwood Community, died Wednesday morning, September 8th, 2010 in a Rome hospital.

A native of Floyd County, Mrs. Cockrill was born on April 3rd, 1920, the daughter of the late Henry P. and Mattie Bell Lovell Simmons. She had spent her entire life in Floyd County and was a member of the Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church where she was a member of the Bessie Myrick Sunday School Class and a member of the Pleasant Valley Pilgrams. For many years Mrs. Cockrill was associated with Celanese and with Glenwood Elementary School. Mrs. Cockrill was married on February 1st, 1941 to Millard P. Cockrill who preceded her in death on December 27th, 1992.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Jerry Tapp of Huntsville Ala.; a son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Annette Cockrill of Cartersville, Ga.; 2 sisters, Clara Conway of Rome and Lillian Payne of Sandy Springs, Ga. Nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Cockrill will be held this (Friday) morning, September 10th, 2010 at 11 o'clock from the graveside of Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Arnold Brown and the Rev. Clyde Hampton officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Cockrill will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family received friends on Thursday evening from 6 until 8 o'clock.
