Fannie Dorris Chambers

Dorris Wade Dobbs Chambers, age 93, of the Old Summerville Road, Rome, passed away on Sunday afternoon, August 4, 2013 at a Rome hospital.

A native of Floyd County, Georgia, Mrs. Chambers was born on May 8, 1920 the daughter of the late Arthur Shamblin Wade and the late Annis Rudd Wade. She had spent the greater part of her life in Floyd County and attended Gore High School. Mrs. Chambers was a member of the New Armuchee Baptist Church where she was a member of the J.O.Y. Club, the Single Purpose Sunday School Class, the Oh Yes Choir and a member of the Mission Action #2 W.M.U. Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Chambers was associated with Champion Garments of Rome for 36 years serving as a supervisor. Mrs. Chambers was preceded in death by her first husband, Alvin Dobbs on May 28, 1988 to whom she was married on May 26, 1939 and was preceded in death by her second husband, Ernest Chambers on February 20, 2013 to whom she was married on June 9, 1991. She was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Glen Elliott on October 28, 2007.

Survivors include 1 daughter, Charlotte Dobbs Elliott of Armuchee; a grandson, Robert Scott Elliott; a step-daughter, Patricia Smith (Grady) of Hiram, Georgia. Nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Dorris Wade Dobbs Chambers will be held on Thursday afternoon, August 8, 2013 at 2 o'clock at the New Armuchee Baptist Church with Dr. David Howard officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot of Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Chambers will lie-in-state at the New Armuchee Baptist Church on Thursday afternoon from 12:30 p.m. until 2 o'clock where the family will receive friends.

The following will serve as active pallbearers, Claude Kail, Lewis Evans, Monroe Caldwell, Max Floyd, Harry Yarbrough and Eddie Ivey. Members of the J.O.Y. Club will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the New Armuchee Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 5385 Martha Berry Highway, Armuchee, Georgia 30105.
