Fred Clinton Kerce, Jr., age 77, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2025, in Kingston, Georgia. He was surrounded by his family at the time of his death, a testament to the close bonds he cherished throughout his life. Fred was a beloved husband and devoted veteran.

Mr. Kerce was born on February 17, 1949 of the Dykes Creek community and lived his entire life there. Fred dedicated much of his career to serving others and engaging with his community. He worked for at General Electric in Rome, Georgia, while also embodying the spirit of self-sufficiency through lifelong farming, where he raised cattle. His commitment to hard work was further exemplified by his contribution to Beers Construction, where he enjoyed building things.

In addition to his work, Fred bravely served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam conflict, where he was honorably discharged and awarded the Purple Heart for his valor. His military service was a defining aspect of his life, and he remained proud of his service and the sacrifices made for his fellow soldiers and his country.

Fred enjoyed working on his land, finding joy in nature and the simple pleasures it presented and was a member of Dykes Creek Baptist Church. Mr. Kerce also was a member and had previously served as president for The Georgia Cattleman’s Association. He cherished his time with his wife, Betty 'Ruth' Kerce, whom he married 26 years ago. Their partnership was marked by love, respect, and shared enthusiasm for their lives together.

Fred is survived by his loving wife, Betty 'Ruth' Kerce of Kingston, GA; his brothers, Bradley Kerce and Richard Kerce (Brig), both of Rome; sister, Susan Joiner (Ronnie) of Auburn, GA. He leaves behind stepsons: Blake West (Toni) and Shane West (Misty); grandchildren: Rodney West and Molly West; great-grandchild, Blakely West, as well as his special nephew and great-nephew, Joshua Kerce (Kristy) and Austin Kerce, along with great-niece Langley Ann Kerce. Numerous loving nieces and nephews also survive Mr. Kerce.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Kerce Sr. and Clara Jeanette Kerce; and uncle, William Martin Kerce.

The celebration of Fred's life will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 at 11:30 AM at Salmon Funeral Home & Crematory Chapel with Rev. Lurlane Sims and Mr. Brad Prater officiating. Mr. Kerce will be laid to rest at Georgia National Cemetery following the funeral service at 2:30 PM. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Josh Kerce, Austin Kerce, Blake West, Shane West, Robert Mathis, Taylor Kerce and Matthew Kerce.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 from 10:00 AM until the service begins at 11:30 AM.

Fred Clinton Kerce, Jr's legacy of service, dedication, and love for his family will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him. The family would like to give a special thanks to his caregiver, Shirley McGhee of Right at Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Regency Southern Care Hospice in Fred's honor
