Mr. Freddie Earl Stewart, Sr., also known as Big Freddie, passed away Thursday evening, September 9, 2021, in a local hospital.
A native of Rome and Floyd County, Freddie was born August 5, 1932, son of the late Robert Varner Stewart and Mary Lou Smith Stewart. He was a veteran of the United States Marines and Air Force. Freddie was a police officer for over 16 years with the City of Rome Police Department before moving to the Floyd County Police Department where he worked for over 25 years before retirement at age 75. He loved his Harley-Davidson motorcycles and was an avid John Wayne fan.
Freddie is survived by his wife, Frankie Mae Johnson Stewart; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Lee and Gary Johnson, and Susan and David Cordell; one son and daughter-in-law, Freddie Earl “Middle Freddie” and Mandy Stewart, Jr.; stepchildren, Jackie Lynn and Terry Paige, Jerry Handley Harcourt, Terry James and Wendy Harcourt, Gwen Sue Cagle, Ruby and Dale Brownlow, Lisa Fowler and Phil and Leigh Fowler. Sixteen great-grandchildren a host of great-great-grandchildren, along with two brothers, Dan and David Stewart, also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday afternoon, September 14, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. in the Alvis Miller Memorial Chapel of Salmon Funeral Home with Rev. Joey Ineichen officiating. Interment will follow in Floyd Memory Gardens.
Freddie’s family will receive friends at Salmon Funeral Home on Tuesday from 12:00 noon until the service hour.
Pallbearers will include Stuart Johnson, Tommy Stewart, Freddie “Little Freddie” Stewart, III, James Stewart, Brian Paige, Jerry Harcourt, Jr. and Shannon Cordle.
