George Herman Yarbrough

Herman Yarbrough, age 76, of #541 Haywood Valley Road NE, Armuchee, GA. passed away on Saturday morning, November 20th, 2010 at a Rome hospital.

A native of Floyd County, Mr. Yarbrough was born on December 25th, 1933, the son of the late George Edward Yarbrough and the late Katie Cadle Yarbrough. He was a graduate of Armuchee High School and was a veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Yarbrough was a member of the New Armuchee Baptist Church and the J.O.Y. Club. He was a member of the Chattooga County Historical Society, the Rome History Museum and the Georgia Mountain Music Club. For a number of years, Mr. Yarbrough was associated with Celanese and prior to retirement he was associated with Bekaert Corp. of Rome. Mr. Yarbrough was preceded in death by 1 sister, Hilda Headrick. He was married on June 16th, 1957 to Charlotte Jane Jones Yarbrough who preceded him in death on July 27th, 2002.

Survivors include 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Beth and Wesley Blalock and Sandy and Tommy Cook all of Armuchee; 3 grandchildren, Chad Cook and his wife, Stephanie of Armuchee, Erica Spriggs and her fianc, Josh Holloway of Rome and Emily Spriggs and Rich Reardon of Rome; 1 great-granddaughter, Abigail Elizabeth Reardon; 4 sisters, Barbara Collier of Rome, Nancy White, Joan Blalock and Carole Everett all of Armuchee; 1 adopted sister, Faye Coates-Holland of Alabama; 2 brothers, Harry Yarbrough of Armuchee and Harold Yarbrough of Rome. A special friend and caretaker, Virginia Phillips. Nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Herman Yarbrough will be held on Tuesday afternoon, November 23rd, 2010 at 2 o'clock at the Rome Midway Primitive Baptist Church on highway 27 North at Armuchee with the Rev. Clyde Wilson, the Rev. Charles Woodfin and the Rev. Edward E. Holsomback officiating. Interment will follow in the Rome Midway Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 American Legion Honor Guard conducting military graveside rites. Mr. Yarbrough will lie-in-state at the church on Tuesday afternoon from 1 until 2 o'clock.

The following will serve as active pallbearers, Darrell and Wesley Blalock, Chad Cook, Rick Reardon, Josh Holloway, Mark and Scott Jones.

Mr. Yarbrough will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends this (Monday) evening from 6 until 8 o'clock. At other hours they will be at their respective homes.
