James Harvey Adams

Rev. James H. "Jimmy" Adams, age 60, of 6 Knollwood Drive, Rome, GA, passed away Tuesday morning at the residence.

Born on October 27, 1950, Jimmy was a son of the late James Howard Adams and Dorothy Jean Dunn Adams. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served during the Vietnam War. He was an ordained minister in The Church of God of the Union Assembly and served as pastor of several churches in the Southeast. His first pastor ship was in Lavonia, GA, and he returned there to pastor in 2006 before returning to Rome earlier this year. Jimmy enjoyed hunting and was an avid University of Alabama Football fan. He loved helping people and you always knew when he in the room, commanding all the attention. In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Adams, and a son, Samuel Luke Adams.

Jimmy is survived by his wife, Carla Lovain Adams, to whom he was married on April 4, 1969; one daughter, Carlita Adams Pratt; two sons, James Franklin Adams and Justin Morgan Adams; an honorary daughter, Jennifer Morgan; ten grandchildren, Kayla Adams, Carleigh Adams, Taylor Pratt, Alix Pratt, McKenna Adams, Crimson Brown, Tyde Brown, Zander Burkett, Macie Hall and Dillon Hall; three sisters, Stacy Adams Tanner, Joanie Adams Hill and Tommie Adams Grimes; three brothers, Terry Adams, Joe Adams and Jack Couch. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Friday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. in the Church of God of the Union Assembly, 2827 Alabama Highway, Rome, GA 30165, with Pastor Ray Miles, Rev. Charlie Bell and Rev. Nathaniel Moody officiating. Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with Shanklin-Attaway Post 5 of the American Legion Honor Guard conferring military rites.

The family will receive friends this (Thursday) evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. in Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel Funeral Home. At other hours they will be at the residence.

Pallbearers are asked to meet at the church of Friday by 1:30 p.m. and include Bobby Cartledge, Donald Tanner, Jr., Charlie Tanner, Skyler Castle, Chad Wilson, Mike Hurt, Robin Spurlin and Johnny Smith. Honorary pallbearers will include Mike Battles, Terry Costner, Jack Ledford, Houston Cookston, Randy Spurlin, Daryl Akins, Bud Goff, Rodney Kennedy, Paul Thomas Hughes, Thomas Pratt, Jesse Crider, Donald Tanner, Sr. and Kenneth Thomason.
