James David Winkle, age 67, of Rome, GA, passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2026.

James was born in Rome, GA, on July 11, 1958, the son of the late Robert Wicker “Dub” Winkle, Sr. and Annie Dale Ray Winkle. James was a talented artist. He loved dogs deeply, and in his earlier years proudly won a dog competition. James always appreciated life’s simple comforts — gathering around the pool table with his family, wearing a nice shirt, and enjoying a good cup of coffee.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by two brothers, Jeffrey Lee Winkle and John Winkle.

Survivors include two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert Wicker Winkle, Jr. (Sandy) and Jerome Winkle (Mary Lou); and a sister-in-law, Kathy Winkle. Several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews also survive.

A Celebration of Life will be on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 2:00 P.M., Chapel of Salmon Funeral Home with Cary Hall officiating. Interment will follow at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be Saturday from 1:00 P.M. until the service hour at Salmon Funeral Home.

The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers and are requested to meet at the funeral home by 1:30 P.M. Saturday: Jerome Winkle, II, Robert Winkle, III “Bert”, Amos Winkle, Liam Ely, Triston Ramey, and Erik Ramey.
