Jerome Woodard Rose

Jerome Woodard "Jerry" Rose, age 78, of 312 Robinhood Road, Rome, passed away on Monday morning, December 2, 2013 in a Rome hospital.

A native of Rome and Floyd County, Mr. Rose was born on December 17, 1934, the son of the late Juliaette Hollandand Otis Young Rose. He graduated from Southern Tech in 1963 with a degree in electronics and received his Associate's Degree from Floyd College. Mr. Rose was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church of Rome where he was very active in church ministries including singing in the Sounds of Praise Choir and visitations. He loved to read his Bible and was an accomplished musician, playing the piano, guitar and harmonica. Mr. Rose was a veteran of the United States Navy and was a longtime member of the YMCA. He was associated for a number of years with Celanese Fibers of Rome and prior to retirement in 2007 was self-employed as an industrial controls technician. In addition to his mother and father, Mr. Rose was preceded in death by his uncle, Mr. Herbert L. Morgan, who was the father figure in his life.

Mr. Rose is survived by his wife, Rosanne Freeman Rose, to whom he was married on September 26, 1959; three sons and daughters-in-law, Michael Jerome and Susan Rose of Canton, GA, Joel Woodard Rose of Marietta, GA, and Matthew Jesse and Mary Bennet D. Rose of Macon, GA; eight grandchildren, Christopher Michael, Katelyn Michele, Jon Austin, Mary Bennet II, and Matthew Freeman Rose, Matthew Spencer and Charles Benjamin Agee and Kayla Miranda Sewell; one great-granddaughter, Alyssa Lauren Sewell; one special adopted son, Michael Crawford of Marietta; one sister, Julie Johnson of Rome; a sister-in-law, Linda Conley and her husband, Gary, of Eatonton, GA. Several nieces, nephews, cousins and a multitude of friends also survive.

Funeral services for Jerome Woodard "Jerry" Rose will be held on Wednesday afternoon, December 4, 2013, at 2:00 o'clock at the Fellowship Baptist Church of Rome with Dr. Dale Levan and the Reverend Billy Murdock officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot of Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. The Honor Guard from the Shanklin-Attaway Post 5 of the American Legion will confer Military Graveside Rites.

Mr. Rose will lie-in-state at the church on Wednesday where the family will receive friends from 12 noon until 2 o'clock. At other hours they will be at the residence.

Pallbearers are asked to meet at the church on Wednesday by 1:30 p.m. and include George Peach, Ed Parker, Henry Burke., Daniel Brown, Therian Smith and Stanley Jones.
