Jerry Thomas Smith

Mr. Jerry Thomas Smith, age 76, of Rome, GA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 3, 2022.

Mr. Smith was born on October 11, 1946, in Rome, GA. He was the son of the late Jack Smith and Sybol Hester Smith. Mr. Smith married Marsha “Darlene” Smith and they were happily married for 47 years. Mr. Smith worked as a mail carrier with the Postal Service for many years before retirement. Mr. Smith was a faithful member of Friendship Baptist Church for many years where he was a Deacon and Assistant Song Director.

Jerry served his country faithfully and was honorably discharged from the United States Army. Jerry was committed to giving back to the community and was always willing to step in and lend a hand. Jerry enjoyed watching Westerns, The Price is Right and Wheel of Fortune.

Survivors include his loving children; daughter, April Jones and her husband Keith of Rome, GA; son, Chris Smith and his wife Star of Cartersville, GA; grandchildren, Alex Jones and his wife Jessica, Chaney Jones, Kaitlyn Smith, Isaiah Smith; one great grandchild, Annaleigh Jones; he is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Darlene Smith; daughter, Tammy Renea Smith; his parents; brothers, Edwin and Therian Smith; and sisters, Janice Knowles and Rhonelda Pyles.

A Celebration of Life for Mr. Smith will be held on Monday, November 7, 2022, at 11:00 am at Friendship Baptist Church with Rev. Justin Silvers and Dr. Rodger Whorton officiating. Jerry's family will receive friends on Monday, November 7, 2022, from 10:00 am until 11:00 am. Interment will take place after the funeral service at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens where military honors will be rendered.
