Johnny D. Newton

Johnny D. Newton, age 66, of Columbia, SC formerly of Rome, GA, passed away on Aug. 30, 2015. Johnny retired from Georgia Power and also owned the Broad Street Pawn and Pipe Shop. He was a member of the Transfiguration Episcopal Church. Mr. Newton was an avid sports fan and especially of the New York Yankees. He loved to play golf at Calliers Golf Club. Johnny was preceded in death by his wife Janice Newton.

He is survived by his two sons, Rhett (Melinda) Newton, Drew (Amber) Newton; daughter, Dawn Lane; grandchildren, Kennedy Newton and Oliviana Newton; four sisters, Frankie Caldwell, Cathy Hall, Nancy Thompson, Perry Jones.

There will be a visitation on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel Funeral Home. The funeral will be on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Transfiguration Episcopal Church with burial to follow at Floyd Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the church.
