Joy Odean Chambers Corbin, age 88, of Rome passed away on Sunday, April 3rd, 2011 at a local hospital.
A native of Floyd County, Mrs. Corbin was born on September 24th, 1922, the daughter of the late Dewey A. and Janie Johnson Chambers. She had spent her entire life in Rome and was a member of the North Broad Baptist Church, where she was a former Deacon, Sunday School teacher and a member of the church choir. Prior to her retirement she was associated with Norton, Hortman and Wilcox for 35 years having retired as office manager. Mrs. Corbin was preceded in death by her first husband, Samuel A. Smith in May of 1983. She was married in 1992 to John Wesley Corbin who preceded her in death on October 21st, 2010.
Local survivors include 3 nephews, Jimmy Drennon and his wife, Kathy, Scott Drennon and his wife, June and John Drennon; 2 nieces, Nancy Williams and her husband, Andy, Karen Schweattman and her husband, Gene; 3 step-daughters, Carol Stanton and her husband, Bob, Becky Black and her husband, Joe, and Cathy Hart; a step-son, John Corbin and his wife, Phyllis.
A memorial service for Joy Odean Chambers Corbin will be held on Friday afternoon, April 8th, 2011 at 2 o'clock at the North Broad Baptist Church with Rev. Katrina Brooks and Rev. Hugh C. Peacock officiating.
In lieu of flowers please make memorial contributions in memory of Mrs. Corbin to the North Broad Baptist Church, 1309 North Broad Street, Rome Georgia 30161.
We will all miss Joy's presence in our lives but she will live forever in our hearts. She was our aunt, great-aunt, stepmother and friend and we will treasure the times we spent together for the rest of our lives.
