Leslie Blake Rutland, Jr., age 74, of the Old Dalton Road, Rome, passed away Tuesday morning, July 3, 2012 at a Rome hospital.
A native of Rome and Floyd County, Mr. Rutland was born on January 7, 1938, the son of the late Leslie Blake Rutland, Sr., and the late Mary Lee Melton Rutland. He was a 1957 graduate of Armuchee High School and was of the Baptist Faith. Prior to his retirement Mr. Rutland was associated with Floyd County as a tax assessor for several years. Mr. Rutland was active in tennis, was an active pilot for a number of years, and loved hunting, flying, tennis and all outdoor sports. He was a member of the Coosa Valley Tennis Association for more than 20 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Melton Rutland.
Mr. Rutland is survived by a daughter, Lori Tate, of Armuchee, GA; a son, Mark Rutland, of Rome; two grandchildren, Samantha Tate and Matthew Rutland; five sisters, Frances Little and her husband, Dan, of Rome, Kate Rutland of Armuchee, Maxine Kana and her husband, Paul, of Jackson, GA, Sybil King and her husband, James, of Ellijay, GA, and Mary Ann Adams and her husband, Dayton, of Jasper, GA; one brother, Cary Rutland and his wife, Linda, of Fortson, GA. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Rutland will be held on Sunday afternoon, July 8, 2012, at 2 o'clock from the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Kulp officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot of East View Cemetery.
The family will receive at the funeral home on Saturday evening from 6 until 8 o'clock.
Pallbearers are asked to meet at the funeral home on Sunday by 1:30 p.m. and include Randy Murdock, Greg Little, Keith Little, Zachary Little, Eric Madden and Jordan Ashley.
