Lewis Minshew, age 96, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, April 6, 2026. Lewis was born on August 23, 1929, in Cherokee County, Alabama to Homer Hill Minshew and Madge Morelock Minshew. He lived most of his life in Floyd County where he worked in the welding supply industry for over 60 years. Lewis and his sons successfully opened, built, and sold two companies. Rome Welding Supply Co. from 1977 to 1991 and Welding Equipment and Supply Co. from 1998 to 2025. He enjoyed meeting people and made countless friends over the years. He loved working in the yard both at his home in Rome and the lake house on lake Weiss.
He is survived by his sons, Rick and his wife, Sherri Minshew and Steve and his wife, Cindy Minshew; his granddaughter, Nikki Bagley; and great-granddaughters, Kaitlin and her husband, Patrick Raney, and Gracie Bagley. He also leaves behind his sister, Eleanor Minshew Risner; special nephew and part time caregiver, Phil Waddell; and several nieces and nephews.
The family and friends would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Lewis' devoted friend and caregiver, Mike Vaughn, for his compassionate care and unwavering support. His servant heart brought Lewis and his family comfort and joy. His daily prayers and commitment to ministering to Lewis was a daily blessing.
The family will receive friends and loved ones at Salmon Funeral Home & Crematory on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Eastview Cemetery in Rome, Georgia.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Pruitt Health Hospice, especially Emily George.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Oostanaula Lodge #113 where he was a member for over 60 years, 207 Tolbert St, Rome, GA 30161.
