Lois Elizabeth "Bobbeth" Hawkins

Lois Elizabeth “Bobbeth” Hawkins, age 90, of Rome, GA, passed away peacefully September 14, 2021, at her residence surrounded by her family.

A native of Rome and Floyd County, Bobbeth was born April 10, 1931, daughter of the late Robert Catlow Stroop and Elizabeth Turner Garrard Stroop. She was a graduate of Shorter College and a member of Community Chapel Baptist Church. Bobbeth was active in S.O.W.E.R.S. Ministry and loved entertaining people. She was always singing and telling stories, loved to travel and spend time in the RV and go walking in the mall. Bobbeth was an accomplished artist and enjoyed working with pottery. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, John Turner Stroop, and two sisters, Ellen Stroop and Edith Sanborn.

Bobbeth is survived by her husband of 69 years, John Douglas Hawkins, Jr., whom she married July 20, 1952; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Al Erkhart, and Ruthie and Tony Robinson; one son, John “Doug” Hawkins; four grandchildren, Beth (Ray) Campbell, Tim (Priscilla) Erkhart, Gary (Shanci) Robinson, and Jennifer (Jeff) Simpson. Six great-grandchildren, a brother and sister-in-law, Robert “Bub” and Rosella Stroop, and five sisters and brothers-in-law, Amelia Jones., Mary Sue Gilleland, Alice and Mack Rodgers, Sara and Mike Oldham, and Vickie Stroop, and a host of nieces and nephews also survive.

There will be a Gathering of Friends on Friday, September 17, 2021, from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. at Salmon Funeral Home. A private funeral service will be held later.

The family request’s that all attendees please wear a mask and practice social distancing.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Bobbeth’s honor to either S.O.W.E.R.S. Ministry, 14771 County Road 424, Lindale, TX, 75771, or Hyman Hospice, 420 East Second Avenue #105, Rome, GA, 30161.
