Marvin Talley, age 68, of #2124 Old Dalton Road, Rome died unexpected Wednesday afternoon, January 20th, 2010 at the residence.
A native of Gordon County, Marvin was born on February 23rd, 1941 the son of the late Walter S. "Jett" Talley, who preceded him in death in 1980 and the late Mattie Alice Ridley Talley, who preceded him in death on December 29th, 2009. He attended the Oostanuala School in Gordon County and was a 1960 graduate of Armuchee High School. Marvin was a 1970 graduate of the Kentucky School of Mortuary Science. He was a Vietnam Veteran having served in the United States Navyand was a member of the Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Floyd Springs Masonic Lodge #167 F&AM, the Rome Shrine Club, The Yaarab Shrine Temple and was a life member of the V.F.W. and a member of Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 American Legion. Marvin was a long time Rome Funeral Director, having established along with his brother, Fred The Talley Brothers Funeral Home in Rome. Following his retirement from funeral service, Marvin was proudly associated with the Floyd County Sheriff's Department for 10 years prior to his retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Milich Talley to whom he was married on September 12th, 1970, 3 daughters and 2 sons-in-law, Angie and Chris Ingram of Rome, Jennifer and Seth Laney of Rome and Sharon Talley of Athens, GA.; 2 grandsons, Ryan (Niki) Ingram and Josh Ingram; 2 granddaughters, Katy Ingram and Alyssa Laney; 1 great-granddaughter, Marissa Ingram; 2 brothers, Richard (Edna) Talley of Rome and Fred Talley of Rome. Nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral service for Marvin Talley will be held this (Saturday) afternoon, January 23rd, 2010 at 1 o'clock from the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Russell officiating. Private entombment for the family will follow in the Oaknoll Mausoleum.
The following will serve as active pallbearers, Chris, Ryan and Josh Ingram, Seth Laney, Tommy Rickman, Ricky Agan and Jerry Boyd. Members of the Floyd County Sheriff's Department along with area funeral directors are asked to serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mr. Talley remained at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family received friends on Friday evening from 6 until 9 o'clock. At other hours they will be at the residence.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial contributions be made to The Shriner's Children's Hospital, C/O The Rome Shrine Club, P.O. Box 1544, Rome, Georgia 30162.
