Mr. Marvin Amos Williams, Jr., age 78, of Rome, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, May 21, 2025.
Marvin was born on February 2, 1947, in Rome, GA, son of the late Marvin Amos Williams, Sr and Syble Camp Williams. He lived a life rich in love and service, leaving behind a legacy of kindness. Marvin honorably served in the United States Army, receiving a National Defense Service Medal and earning the distinction of Sharpshooter with the M-14. His military service was a testament to his dedication to his country.
Marvin dedicated many years of his life to his career as a truck driver, where he could often be found on the open road, taking pride in delivering goods and connecting communities. His work ethic reflected his unwavering devotion to providing for his family, whom he cherished deeply. Marvin was a loving and kind man, known to many as a dependable friend and neighbor. He was an active member of Dykes Creek Baptist Church, where he not only attended regularly but also served as the Sunday School Director for 40 years and as a Deacon. His faith was central to his life, guiding him in his kindness and generosity towards others. This past year was full of battles, but he won the war when he entered glory.
Family was the cornerstone of Marvin's life; he often spoke of them with immense pride. He is survived by his beloved wife, Emily "Jane" (Kerce) Williams of Rome; his son, Michael T. Williams and wife Mandy of Travelers Rest, SC; his daughter, Melissa Abernathy and her husband Shawn of Rockmart, GA; his sisters, Audrey Bryant and Joyce Loveless both of Rome; and three cherished grandchildren, Alex McDermont, Allie McDermont (Nick Shealy), and Aiden Williams; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Susie Kerce of Rome.
In addition to his parents, Marvin was preceded in death by his sister, Sallie Phillips; his brother-in-law, Bob Bryant; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dallas and Joyce Kerce.
Funeral services for Mr. Williams will be held Sunday, May 25, 2025 at 4:00 pm in the Dykes Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Cargle, Rev. Mike Garrett and Pastor Gary Graves officiating. Interment will take place at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton on Wednesday afternoon, May 28, 2025 at 2:00 PM with the United States Army Honor Guard in charge of military rites. Please arrive by 1:30 pm at the Georgia National Cemetery for those attending the graveside service.
Pallbearers will include Wesley Kerce, Marcus Purdy, Rett Edwards, Corey Reece, Vince Kerce, Dallas Kerce Jr, Ross Edwards, Ronny Pasley and Dustin Brock. The Deacons and Sunday School teachers from Dykes Creek Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 25, 2025 from 2:00 pm until 3:45 pm at Dykes Creek Baptist Church.
