Mary Howell McJunkin

Mrs. Mary Howell McJunkin, age 101, of Rome, GA, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, April 29, 2023.


Mrs. McJunkin was born on August 30, 1921 in Rome, GA. She was a daughter of the late: Jesse Howell and Lottie Fitzpatrick Howell. Mary was a faithful member of North Broad Baptist Church for over 60 years where she taught the children’s Sunday School Class and served on several committees there. In her free time Mrs. McJunkin served the Community Kitchen, the Floyd Home Maker Club and enjoyed being part of the Rosie the Riveters during World War II. Mary was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, Guy M. McJunkin; beloved daughter, Nancy Lou McJunkin, loving grandson, Michael Christopher Cromer and her beloved and long time friend, Shirley Mathis.
Mrs. McJunkin is survived by her loving daughter, Janie McJunkin Cromer of Rome, GA; grandson, Chip Cromer and his wife Libby Cromer of Sugar Hill, GA; great grandson, Christopher ‘Mack’ Cromer of Sugar Hill, GA; granddaughter, Christina Cromer Warren and her husband Scott of Graham, AL; special nieces, Patty Mathis of Rome, GA and Sheila Barton of Rome, GA; many other family and friends.


Funeral Services for Mrs. Mary Howell McJunkin will be held on Monday, May 1, 2023 at 2:00 PM at the North Broad Baptist Church with Reverend Micah Pritchett, Benjie Mathis and Mr. Chip Cromer officiating. Special music will be provided by Rev. Priscilla Tunnell and Wanda Meeks. Interment will follow the service at East View Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Chip Cromer, Mack Cromer, Robert Mathis, Lee Treadaway, Tim Mathis, Benjie Mathis and Terry Lingerfelt. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Rosie the Riveters, Roy and Nancy Echols, Haskell Perry, Loraine Moman, Larry and Wanda Meeks, members of the Ruth Sunday School Class, Julie Dees “Little T.” Paula Fuller, Beth and Adair Cox, Jan Mathis, Chulio Hills Nursing and Rehab staff and the Tapestry Hospice care team.
The family will receive friends at the North Broad Baptist Church on Monday, May 1, 2023 from 12:00 PM until the service begins at 2:00 PM.


The family respectfully asks that in lieu of flowers, donation be sent to North Broad Baptist Church in Mrs. McJunkin’s memory.
