Michael Craig Evans

Michael Craig Evans, age 61, of Rome, died Sunday morning, May 18, 2014, in a local hospital.

Michael was born in Cedartown, GA, on December 16, 1952, the son of Melvin Charlie Evans and the late Geraldine South Evans. He had been a resident of Rome and Floyd County most of his life. For a period of time Michael was associated with Lowe's of Rome, was an owner and operator of a used auto sales lot and most recently was a finance director for local auto sales dealerships. Michael was a member and deacon of the West Rome Church of God of the Union Assembly. He loved to play golf, ride motorcycles and listen to rock and roll music. In addition to his mother, Michael was preceded in death by a step-son, Cass Chappell.

Michael is survived by his wife,, Shirley Brown Evans, to whom he was married on July 14, 2012; three sons, Spencer Evans and Clay Evans, both of Cookeville, TN, and Justine Evans of Rome; father, Melvin Charlie "MC" Evans of Rome; brother, Keith Evans of Jacksonville, FL; step-children, Jeff Chappell and Shonda Murphy. Several cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of friends also survive.

A Celebration of Life for Michael will be held on Saturday afternoon, May 31, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. in the West Rome Church of God of the Union Assembly with Pastor Chad Wilson officiating. Music will be provided by the West Rome Choir and Corey Beeler.

Honorary pallbearers are asked to meet at the church on Saturday by 1:45 p.m. and include Brantley Wilson, Landau Bright, Butch Couey and Ray Couey.

A reception will follow in the Tower Life Center, 1 Emerson Drive, Rome, GA, 30165.
