Mrs. Elizabeth Blackstock Gordon, age 98, of #12 Stevens Street, Rome, died Saturday morning, July 23rd, 2011.
A native of Bartow County, Mrs. Gordon was born on December 13th, 1912, the daughter of the late Homer and Millie Kitchens Blackstock. She had spent the greater part of her life in Rome and Floyd County and was a member of the North Broad Baptist Church and the Dorcus Sunday School Class. Prior to her retirement in 1981 Mrs. Gordon was associated with Northwest Georgia Regional Hospital. Mrs. Gordon was preceded in death by a daughter, Leila Elizabeth Hadaway, by 2 sons, Joseph Dean Gordon, Jr. and Kenneth Alvin Gordon, Sr., by 1 sister and 4 brothers. Mrs. Gordon was married on February 13th, 1937 to Joseph Dean Gordon, Sr., who preceded her in death in 1971.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Mildred and Tom Daley of Rome; a son, James William "Bill" Gordon of Rome. 9 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Gordon will be held on Tuesday morning, July 26th, 2011 at 11 o'clock at the North Broad Baptist Church with Chaplain Mike Westmoreland officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot of East View Cemetery. Mrs. Gordon will lie-in-state at the church on Tuesday morning from 10 until 11 o'clock.
Mrs. Gordon will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel Funeral Home where the family will receive friends this (Monday) evening from 6 until 8 o'clock. At other hours they will be at the home of the daughter and son-in-law, Mildred and Tom Daley, #17 Plymouth Road, (Garden Lakes Community), Rome.
The following will serve as active pallbearers, Roy Echols, Larry Meeks, James Rayburn, Joe Gordon, Jake Hicks and Larry Gordon.
