Myra Vaughan Dempsey

Mrs. Myra Delores Vaughan Dempsey, age 83, of Rome, GA, passed away peacefully at her residence surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Dempsey was born July 6, 1937, in Elba, AL, a daughter of the late John Frank Vaughan and Gladys Florine Kite Vaughan. She was a 1956 graduate of Pepperell High School. Mrs. Dempsey was a lifelong member of Second Avenue Baptist Church and loved to sing in the choir. She loved her family, and the joy of her life was doing special things for others. Mrs. Dempsey was an accomplished seamstress who made her own wedding gown in 1956. She enjoyed entertaining in her home, decorating and traveling. Mrs. Dempsey was known far and wide for her skills in baking, especially her pound cake. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, John Derwood Vaughan.

Mrs. Dempsey is survived by her adoring husband of 65 years, Bill Dempsey, who she married September 9, 1956; daughter, Lynn (Carlton) Peek; son, Michael (Shana) Dempsey; grandchildren, Patrick (Sarah) Peek, Katie (Matt) Lewis, Ben Peek, Megan (Michael) Quaye-Sowah, and Joshua Dempsey; great-grandchildren, Davis Lewis, Oliva Peek, Owen Peek, and Anna Ruth Peek; sister, Martha McGrath. Nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Dempsey will be Monday afternoon, March 29, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. in the Alvis Miller Memorial Chapel of Salmon Funeral Home with Dr. Dennis Rogers officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Dempsey’s family will receive friends at Salmon Funeral Home on Monday from 12:00 noon until the service hour.

Pallbearers will include Patrick Peek, Ben Peek, Joshua Dempsey, Matt Lewis, Michael Quaye-Sowah, and Brent Durrett.
