Pearlie O'Neal Barton

Mrs. Pearlie ONeal Barton, age 85, of Rome, GA, passed away on Friday evening, November 17, 2017, in a local hospital.
A native of Rome and Floyd County, Mrs. Barton was born on May 19, 1932, daughter of the late Marion Carroll ONeal, Sr. and Eula James ONeal. She had lived the greater part of her life in the Shannon area and for many years was a member of the First Baptist Church of Shannon. Mrs. Barton was a gifted musician, playing the organ for First Baptist of Shannon for many years. She also could play the piano, guitar, harmonica, and sing, performing on the radio as a child. Mrs. Barton was the owner-operator of Cut-N-Curl Beauty Shop in Shannon for 50 years. After 45 years of marriage to Joe Barton, she moved to Rome where she continued to volunteer at Floyd Medical Center as a Gray Lady. She became a member of First Baptist of Rome and played the piano there on occasion. Mrs. Barton loved traveling, cooking, keeping a flower garden, visiting people, and always doing for others. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters Alice Evans, Gaye Williams, Louise Rutledge, Dorothy Hootman; and brothers MC ONeal Jr., and Eugene ONeal.
Mrs. Barton is survived by a daughter, Rhonda Barton Rayburn; three grandchildren, Amanda Renee Highfield, Chance Richard Highfield (Heather) and Kathryn Cassidy Jean Rayburn; two great-grandchildren, Olive Highfield and Harrison Highfield; two sisters, Mae Anna Johnson and Patricia ONeal Lowe; one brother, Leon ONeal. A host of other family and friends also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Barton will be held on Tuesday morning, November 21, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. in the Carl Sidwell Chapel of Salmon Funeral Home with Dr. Joel Snyder and Mr. Keith Reeves officiating. Interment will follow in the East View Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Salmon Funeral Home on Monday evening, November 20, 2017, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
