Peggy Webb Ayers

Peggy Ayers, age 95, of 100 Keown Road, S.E., Rome, passed away peacefully in her sleep Tuesday, February 13, 2024.

Mrs. Ayers was born in Rome, Ga on September 7, 1928 and was the only child of the late Mark Webb and the late Lethia Williams. She lived her entire life in Rome and graduated form Rome Girls High School in 1945. Her work life began as a telephone switchboard operator for Southern Bell followed by a career in Executive Secretarial work and in latter years focused primarily in Legal Offices. Mrs. Ayers was a charter member of Sherwood Forest Baptist Church and was active there for 45 years, where she always enjoyed working in the Children’s and Youth Departments and singing in the choir. She was an active member of Dykes Creek Baptist Church beginning in 2003 and until health issues made that impossible.

Mrs. Ayers and her husband, Bill, were blessed to have the opportunity to travel extensively and thoroughly enjoyed camping and travelling before and after his retirement. She was a loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother and cherished friend. In recent years, her precious memories were of great comfort to her.

She is preceded in death by her beloved and devoted husband of 54 wonderful years, William H. (Bill) Ayers, to whom she was married, July 11, 1958. She is survived by five children; Sherry Owens (David), Varnell GA., Jean Cathey (Roger), Franklin, TN., Van Perry (Harriet), Ocala, FL., Pam Pritchett (Mike), Dacula, GA., and Amber Brigham (Bill), Roswell, GA.; seven grandsons; Chris Owens (Brittany), Varnell, GA., Brian Owens (Mandy), Varnell, GA., Blake Perry, Ocala, FL., Jim Brigham, Roswell, GA., Ben Brigham (Meg), Chattanooga, TN., Will Brigham (Laurel), Atlanta, GA., and Tyler Pritchett, Hoschton, GA., and seven great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel of Salmon Funeral Home in Rome with Dr. Talmadge Barnes officiating. Interment will follow at East View Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday at the funeral home at 3:00 p.m.

Mrs. Ayers’ grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Salmon Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Peggy Ayers.
