Phillip Keith Jameson, age 67 of Rome, passed away on August 6, 2015. He was a loving father and devoted husband and will be greatly missed.
Mr. Jameson taught special education at Rome High School, West Rome High School and coached High School and College basketball. 'Coach Jameson' was a beloved basketball coach for Shorter College, West Rome High School, and Rome High School, towering at a whopping 6'8.' Over the course of his career, Phillip was a member of the American and Georgian Vocational Associations and the American and Georgian Association of Special Needs Teachers. He also oversaw the recreation of special needs children for Epworth by the Sea for 18 years. Mr. Jameson attended school at Chipola Jr. College and Shorter College, both on full basketball scholarships. He graduated from Shorter with a Bachelor of Arts andreceived Coach of the Year in 1971. He received his M.Ed in Special Education from West Georgia College and began his teaching career at West Rome High School. Outside of his career, he was a proud UGA Redcoat Band Dad. He loved to hunt and fish, and was an avid supporter of band and sportsactivities with the schools. He is a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Phillip was preceded in death by his wife Martha Charlotte Mitchell Jameson in 1999; parents, James Walter Jameson and Hilda Catherine Hughes Jameson; two brothers, Lewey Woodrow Jameson and James Walter Jameson, Jr.
He is survived by his daughter Jessie Lynn Jameson; 3 sisters, Beverly Jean, Barbara Ann and Margaret Cecelia; current wife, Robin Jameson.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Monday August 10, 2015 at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel Funeral Home. There will be a memorial service to follow at 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
