Phyllis Doreen Huseby, a cherished educator and beloved family member, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2026, in Rome, Georgia, surrounded by her loved ones. Born on April 7, 1949, in Columbus, Ohio, Phyllis lived a life marked by dedication, grace, and an enduring love for both her profession and her family.
Phyllis pursued her academic passion with determination, earning a Bachelor's degree in English from Kennesaw State University. Her commitment to education led her to a rewarding career as an English teacher with Cobb County Schools, where she specialized in teaching AP English and Language classes. Through her work, she inspired countless students, fostering a love of literature and critical thinking that would impact their lives far beyond the classroom.
Known for her impeccable taste and a warm, welcoming spirit, Phyllis took great joy in crafting a beautiful home, which became a treasured gathering place for friends and family. Her love of antiquing reflected a keen eye for timeless beauty and history, while her skill in the kitchen made her renowned for amazing meals that brought people together in celebration and comfort.
Phyllis is survived by her daughter Amy Lynch and her husband John Durden of Rome, Georgia; as well as her son Robert Alexander and his wife Stacy Schermerhorn of Asheville, North Carolina. Her granddaughters McKenna Lynch and Hope Alexander will carry on her legacy.
Her surviving family also includes: Her step-son Ron Huseby, his daughters Missy and Amber, as well as her dear sister Gail Waller.
The loss of Phyllis is deeply felt alongside the memory of those who preceded her in death: her parents, Harold Haskell and Louise Brooks Haskell; her devoted husband of 41 years, Richard Douglas Huseby; and her granddaughter, Austin Huseby.
Phyllis Doreen Huseby's life was a testament to the power of kindness, the importance of education, and the joy of close-knit family connections. Her legacy endures in the hearts of all who knew her, as a woman who enriched the lives around her with beauty, wisdom, and unwavering love.
In accordance with Mrs. Huseby's wishes, she will be cremated and at this time there are no services.
