Richard Allen Drawdy

June 22, 1944 — January 25, 2023

Richard Allen Drawdy, age 78, of Rome, Georgia entered eternal peace on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at Redmond Hospital. Richard was born on June 22, 1944 in Buford, South Carolina to the late Vandosta and Marguerite Hutto Drawdy.

After graduating high school, he received a full athletic scholarship to Mississippi State to play football. He later transferred to Jacksonville State University to continue to play football. While at JSU he broke many school records as a quarterback and graduated with a bachelor’s degree with studies in business. He continued his athletic career and went on to play football professionally in Canada. After actively playing football, he went on to coach football at Anniston High School and Jacksonville State University. He also worked professionally in the insurance business before finally opening his own business where he worked until retirement. Mr. Richard had an inherently gracious nature and loved to spend time with his family who will miss him dearly.


Anyone privileged enough to have known Richard, to have spent any amount of time with him, knows that his love for his family was most important to him. He is survived by his daughter, Dina Drawdy Cowan of Rome, GA; brother, Charlie (Lil) Drawdy, Sr of SC; grandchildren, Emma Katherine Cowan, Stephen McBrayer Cowan, Barritt Tarpley Cowan; nephews, Charlie Drawdy, Jr, Oswald Drawdy, Van Drawdy, Michael Drawdy, Grant Tarpley, Ronnie Simmons, Jr.; nieces, Stacy Tarpley, Carla Tarpley Yeo (Bob), Ronda Lynn Hall, Missy Ann Baker, Mandy Tarpley; his previous spouses who he loved dearly, Charlene Hitchcock and Edie Drawdy; as well as several other family members and special friends.


The family will receive friends and family on the evening of Friday, February 10th at 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Salmon Funeral Home. Immediately after the visitation a celebration of life will take place on Friday, February 10th at 6:00pm in the chapel of Salmon Funeral Home with Mr. Jack Swann officiating.


The staff of Salmon Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Mr. Richard Allen Drawdy.
