Mr. Robert Lamar Garrett, age 82, of Rome, GA, passed away peacefully at his home in Cedar Bluff, AL, on April 17, 2024.

Lamar was born in Rome, GA, on September 15, 1941, son of the late Mather Marvin Garrett and the late Alice Lenora Sharpe Garrett. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Karen Orpha Garrett; his former wife, Yvonne Robinson; his daughter Shelly Susan Michelle Garrett; and his brother, Jimmy Garrett.

Mr. Garrett was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving in Vietnam from 1965 - 1967, on active duty as a SSGT in the 1 8t and 7th Calvary. While in the service, Lamar received a Parachutist Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, a National Defense Service Medal, a Purple Heart, a Bronze Star, a Combat Infantryman Badge, a Republic of Vietnam Medal w/ Device, Expert Rifle (M-14), two O/S Bars, a 2Class Gunner (M-60 Machine Gun), and two Air Medals during combat. Lamar worked at Lindale Pepperell Mill, prior to his service in the U.S. Army, then went on to work at Georgia Kraft/Temple Inland, after returning from active duty, retiring after 35 years of service. Lamar loved to have/drive fast cars, travel with his family, dancing, and fishing. He was of Baptist faith.

Survivors include, his children, Christie (Michael) Warren of Rome, GA, Lori (Donnie) Langston of Kennesaw, GA, Bobby Garrett of Calhoun, GA, Matt (Rebekah) Mathis of Rome, GA and Sunny (Kent) Walker of Cedar Bluff, AL; his grandchildren, Michelle (Brad) Taylor of Rome, GA, Katie Warren of Atlanta, GA, Paige Garrett Brown of North Carolina, Tori Garrett of Rome, GA, Collin Mathis of Rome, GA, Cauri Mathis of Rome, GA, Cooper Mathis of Rome, GA, Dakota Smith of Rome, GA, Garrett (Vanessa)  Crane of Cedar Bluff, AL, Hudson Walker of Rome, GA, and Sydney Walker of Rome, GA; his greet grandchildren, Chelsea (Paul) Alexander of Rome, GA, Emily Warren of Pensacola, FL, Kendall Warren of Rome, GA, Wesley Smith of Rockmart, GA, Laiken Smith of Rockmart, GA, Chelsea Smith of Rockmart, GA, Riley Smith of Rome, GA, Brinley Smith, of Rome, GA, Lainey Smith of Rome, GA, Chacen Crane Goss of Piedmont, AL, Stetson Crane of Cedar Bluff, AL, and Scottie Crane of Cedar Bluff, AL; his sisters Brenda Brannon and Sue Knight, both of Rome, GA. Lamar also had a special Angel who cared for him, Shelia Jordan of AL. Thank you to her and all her family for the care and love over the Last four years given to Dad.

In accordance with his wishes, Mr. Garrett will be cremated. A celebration of life service for Lamer will be held at Lamar's Home in Cedar Bluff, AL at a later date. The family can be reached at 252 Summer Breeze Dr., Cedar Bluff, AL; or 256-557-3361.
