Robert L Cordle

Colonel Robert Livy (Bob) Cordle, U.S. Air Force Retired, age 82, of Big Texas Valley Road, Rome, GA, passed away April 19, 2013 at Winthrop of Rome.

Col. Cordle, born May 23, 1930 in Floyd County, joined the Air Force soon after graduating from Armuchee School in 1947. After serving as an air traffic controller, he completed Officer's Candidate School and pilot training to pursue his life's passion of flying. Col. Cordle piloted jet fighters during three tours of duties encompassing the Korean and Vietnam wars in which he was awarded a Purple Heart, received numerous medals, and set records for hours flying the F-4. After retiring from active military service of 32 years, he owned and operated the Rome Flying Service where scores of pilots were trained under the watchful eye of Col. Bob. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin Livy Cordle and Eula Bell Davis Cordle, his wife, Ferne Jett Cordle.

Bob is survived by children, Cathy Germain (John), Cindy Proctor (Morris), and Jeff Cordle, grandchildren, Eric Shaw and Amy Kross (Riley), brother, Bill Cordle (Francis), and sisters, Isabel Campbell (Frank) and Emily Milstead.

A memorial service, including full military honors, will be held at 1 o'clock p.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Morris Proctor officiating. The family will greet friends at Parkview Chapel following the memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions, in memory of Bob Cordle, be made to either Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church, #735 Old Summerville Road, SE, Rome, Georgia 30165 or to Antioch Baptist Church, #4526 Big Texas Valley Road, Rome, Georgia 30165.
