Ruby Lee Thurston, age 80, of 1316 Turkey Mountain Road NE, Rome, passed away on Sunday afternoon, October 2nd, 2011 at Summit Health Care of Rome.

A native of Marshall County, Alabama, Mrs. Thurston was born on May 1st, 1931, the daughter of the late Clay Petti Johnson and the late Julie Ann Snyder Johnson. She had spent the greater part of her life in Floyd County, Georgia and was a homemaker. Mrs. Thurston was a member of the New Antioch Baptist Church of Shannon. Mrs. Thurston was preceded in death by a daughter, Becky Moses on October 23rd, 1999, and by a grandson, Nathan Terry on July 6th, 1975. She was also preceded in death by several sisters and brothers. Mrs. Thurston was married on March 20th, 1947 to Rymon Grant Thurston who preceded her in death on July 28th, 2009.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Ellis Terry of Rome; 3 sons and daughters-in-law, Roy G. and Joanne Thurston of Marietta, GA.; Tom and Jean Thurston of Rome and Merle and Donna Thurston of Subligna, GA.; 9 grandchildren, Dyvonnda Thurston, Daryl Terry, Dana Battle, Trisha Terry, Amy Thurston, Jeremy Moses, Anthony Thurston, Jenni Thurston and Josh Moses; 5 great-grandchildren also survive, 1 sister, Peggy Saunders of Sun Valley, California; 1 brother, Tom Johnson of Santa Barbara, California. Nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Ruby Lee Thurston will be held on Wednesday morning, October 5th, 2011 at 11 o'clock from the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with the Rev. Edward E. Holsomback, Rev. Dan Hyde and Rev. Stephen Williams officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot of Rome Midway Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

The following will serve as active pallbearers and are requested to meet at the funeral home on Wednesday morning by 10:30, Leon O'Neal, Harold Bray, Claude Kail, Dale Farmer, James Lowery, Andy Carroll and Edwin Bray.

Mrs. Thurston will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends this (Tuesday) evening from 6 until 8 o'clock. At other hours they will be at their respective homes.
