Sharon Hyde Barker, age 84, born on June 19, 1942, in Rome, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
A devoted matriarch, Sharon leaves behind a legacy defined by unwavering dedication to her family and community. She is survived by her daughter, Jan Hall and her husband, Bryan and a son, Jason Barker; her life was further enriched by her many grandchildren: Ben (Julie) Silver, Nicholas (Allison) Barker, Samantha Barker, Kelli (Shane) Dover, Julie (Jesse) Burkhalter, Emily Russell, Molly (Jonah) Hall, Meredith (Taylor) Butler, and Ben (Brooke) Hall; and eleven great grandchildren. Sharon was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Lee Barker; her parents, Raymond and Pauline Higgins Hyde and by a sister, Jeannie Bishop. Their memories, bound together through years of shared joy and family traditions, remain a constant presence in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
A pillar of reliability and care, Sharon dedicated 51 years to serving as a school bus driver for Floyd County. Her genuine affection for children was evident in the countless daily interactions she shared during her long career. Cherished for her enthusiasm, Sharon adored driving her school bus, finding joy in each day’s journey and in the friendly faces that came and went with the seasons. Her love for children extended well beyond her own family, rooting her as a positive force in her community.
Beyond her professional dedication, Sharon found great joy in the beauty of the natural world. She loved working in her yard and gardening, tending to flowers that flourished under her care and reflected her nurturing spirit. Her garden was not only a personal sanctuary but also a symbol of her appreciation for simple pleasures and quiet diligence. Sharon’s fondness for flowers was well known among friends and family, brightening countless homes and occasions.
A visitation for Mrs. Barker will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at Salmon Funeral Home & Crematory from 12:00 PM until the funeral service begins at 2:00 PM.
Funeral Services to honor and celebrate the life of Mrs. Barker will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2026 at 2:00 PM from The Salmon Funeral Home & Crematory Chapel with Pastor Shane Dover officiating. Following the funeral service, Mrs. Barker will be laid to rest at Floyd Memory Gardens with Bryan Hall, Mike Bishop, Nicholas Barker, Ben Silver, Ben Hall and Jesse Burkhalter serving as pallbearers.
