Shelby Jean Prater Weeks, age 87, of Rome, GA passed away peacefully on June 4, 2026. She was surrounded by her loving family at the time of her passing, a testament to the deep bonds she nurtured throughout her life. Shelby was born on December 12, 1938, in Cherokee County, Alabama.

Mrs. Weeks dedicated much of her life to being a devoted homemaker, ensuring that her household was a place of warmth, love and care. Her skill in the kitchen was widely admired; she was known for creating some of the best homemade dishes, especially her biscuits and desserts. She always brought joy to family and friends alike. She found great pleasure in tending to her garden and preserving nature’s bounty through canning vegetables, nurturing life both inside and outside her home.

Her faith was a cornerstone of her life. As a proud member of Wilkerson Road Baptist Church, she actively participated in the choir and generously gave her time to teaching Sunday School classes, enriching her church community with her spirit and dedication.

Shelby Jean Weeks is survived by her devoted daughter, Diane (Jack) Adkins; son, Tyde Weeks; her beloved grandchildren: Marci Oliver, Jordan Adkins, Brian Weeks, Steven Weeks, and Tyi Weeks; her cherished great-grandchildren: Jacob Clements (whose wife, Baylei Clements lovingly cared for Shelby in her final days), Tammy Jade Maldonado, Savannah Oliver, Memphis Oliver, Samantha McGatha, Alex Weeks, Carson Weeks, Tristain Weeks, Kristian Weeks, Ethan Weeks, River Weeks, Waylon Weeks, Chloe Weeks, Tucker Adkins, Turner Adkins, Serenity Adkins and Chance Adkins. Additionally, she is remembered fondly by her great-great-grandchildren: Bryston, Elijah, and Leiland Clements, Addalyn and Grayson Maldonado, and Stetson and Sammy McGatha.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 57 years, Robert Reese Weeks; their son, Mack Weeks; daughter, Robbie Jean Roberts; her parents, William Marion Prater and Alma Lee Couthran Prater; brothers,Dwight and Billy Prater; sister, Betty McCullough; and a grandchild, Patches Clements.

The family will receive friends and loved ones at Wilkerson Road Baptist Church, located at 401 Wilkerson Road SW, Rome, GA 30165 on Monday, June 8, 2026, from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held at the church following the visitation at 1:00 PM on Monday, June 8, 2026 with Reverend Steve Spears officiating and Mr. John Peoples and Marci Oliver providing eulogies. Following the funeral service, Ms. Shelby will be laid to rest at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with Keith Weeks, Steven Hamby, Michael Oliver, Jordan Adkins, Jacob Clements and Dwayne Weeks serving as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Wilkerson Road Baptist Church in Shelby’s honor.

Shelby Jean Weeks’ unwavering dedication to her family, her church, and her community leaves an enduring imprint on all who had the privilege to know her. Her love and kindness will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
