Mrs. Shirley Burns, age 84, of Kingston, GA, passed away on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 surrounded by her loving family.
Shirley was born on March 24, 1939 in Kingston, GA, to her late parents: Roy A. Byars and Willie Mae Willburn Byars. She retired from Floyd County School Systems. She was a member of Blue Pond Baptist Church and the Plainville Food Ministry team, where she would cook for 200 or more people weekly and delivered the meals as well. She loved to cook! She also cooked for revival at Morrison Campground, which she enjoyed very much. Shirley also loved to travel and spend time with her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her late parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, John M. Burns, Sr., and a daughter, Rhonda Parker.
Mrs. Burns is survived by her children: John Burns and his wife, Sheryl and Deborah Bell, grandchildren: Christa Birdsong, Drew Bedwell, Nichole Collins, Reanna Robinson and Kassadie Leng; seven great-grandchildren: Adam, Ally, Abby, Atlas Leyla, Lincoln and Elijah and one on the way, baby Alivia; two great-great grandchildren; Abel and Audrey, two nieces: Anita Sterling and Jeanie Glotfelty also survive.
Funeral Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Shirley Burns will be held on Saturday, December 23, 2023 at 3:00 PM in the chapel of Salmon Funeral Home with Pastor Jerry Branton officiating.
Interment will follow the funeral service at Blue Pond Baptist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be the following gentlemen: Kaleb Robinson, Drew Bedwell, Zack Birdsong, John Burns, Keith Murphy and Adam Crider.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, December 23, 2023 from 1:00 PM until the service begins at 3:00 PM.
