Thelma Lois Hendon

On Christmas day, December 25, 2011, Mrs. Thelma Lois George Hendon was called home.

Mrs. Hendon was born in Cherokee County, AL, on October 28, 1915, the daughter of the late William J. and Effie Ophelia Garmon George. Prior to her retirement Mrs. Hendon was associated with Krannert Elementary School having retired as the manager of the cafeteria. At the time of her death Mrs. Hendon was the oldest member of the Lakeview Baptist Church where she was a member of the T.E.L. Sunday School Class. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sisters, her twin sister, Rhelma Coholey, and Willie Ruth Barnard, and by a brother, William H. George. She was married on May 18, 1935 to Emmett Lee Hendon, who preceded her in death on July 2, 2005.

Mrs. Hendon is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Jimmy Russell of Cedartown, GA, and Melba and Richard Didrick of Rome. Six grandchildren, Janice Brinson, Rome, Bruce Downs, Mount Pleasant, SC, Terry Downs, Atlanta, Laura Downs, Rome, Barry Didrick, Rome and Susan Poole, Cartersville and eight great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews also survive.

A Celebration of life will be held on Wednesday afternoon, December 28, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. from the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with Rev. Jason Willis officiating. Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Hendon will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel Funeral Home where the family will receive friends on Wednesday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour.

Grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as active pallbearers.
