Mr. Thomas “Tommy” Amos Mathis, Sr., age 78, of Rome, GA, passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2020.
Tommy was born in Blue Ridge, GA, on September 20, 1942, son of the late Clarence and Flora Mae Franklin Mathis. He had been a resident of Rome and Floyd County most of his life and was of the Baptist faith. Tommy had worked for many years at Marglen Industries prior to retirement. He was an avid golfer, loved fishing and was a “Big Time” Georgia Football and NASCAR fan.
Tommy is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Bird Cook Mathis, whom he married October 25, 1980; two daughters and son-in-law, Sherrie Clement of Rome, and Susie and Ricky King of Plainville, GA; three sons and daughters-in-law, Billy and Angela Mathis of Kingston, GA, Bobby Mathis of Rome, and Thomas, Jr., and Jenny Mathis of Cedartown, GA; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Carol Jean and Charlie Thomas, of Blue Ridge, and Anna Lou and Leland Postell, also of Blue Ridge; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Clint and Betty Mathis of Dalton, GA, and Bob and Fayrene Mathis of Blue Ridge. Seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Tommy will be held on Friday afternoon, September 25, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Salmon Funeral Home with Coach Todd Wheeler officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
Tommy’s family will receive friends at Salmon Funeral Home on Friday from 1:30 until 3:00 p.m.
