William Van Crumley, a most kind-hearted person, passed away on October 10, 2024, at the age of 78, after a sudden illness. Van was known for his generosity and love for other people he knew and for many he didn’t know.
Van was born on January 8, 1946, in Dalton, Georgia, to the late Thomas William and Lois Wells Crumley. He was a life-long resident of Floyd County, Georgia, and a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Rome, Georgia. He graduated from Pepperell High School, where he met the love of his life, JoAnn Pollard, whom he eventually married on December 18, 1966, and remained married until her death on July 13, 1991. Van served honorably in the United States Army and was stationed in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. Van worked various jobs, but his passion was computer programming, working for banks and poultry operations.
Surviving Van are his Uncle Jim and Aunt Florence Wells and numerous cousins. He also is survived by friends, Gary and Linda Kerr, Patricia Shedd, Michael, Saylor and Stella Allen, Tabitha Downs, Melissa and Chris Corndog Hardin, Lee and Carol Burke and the entire staff at the Rome, Georgia, International House of Pancakes (IHOP) and his precious cat, Scooter.
Visitation will be Monday, October 14th, from 12:00 PM until the funeral service at 2:00 PM at Salmon Funeral Home in Rome, Georgia. Immediately after the funeral service burial will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. The service will be conducted by Rev. Justin Silver with Salmon Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Flowers may be accepted, or donations may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church in Rome, GA.
