Mr. William “Gene” Eugene Scoggins III, age 62, of Rome, Georgia, passed away on October 26, 2026, in Rome. He was born on August 12, 1964, in Rome, Georgia.

Gene will be remembered as a hardworking man who devoted much of his life to the road. He was a truck driver for more than 40 years, a career he loved deeply. He began with dump truck hauls and, through years of dedication and experience, moved into cross-country long-haul driving. He took those trips often as a way of providing for his family, and that commitment spoke clearly to the kind of man he was. A few years ago, after being diagnosed with cancer and facing health issues, he had to step back from the work he loved. Even then, he continued to miss the road and the job that had been such an important part of his life.

Outside of work, Gene found joy in the beauty of the mountains and in time spent in nature. He appreciated the simple things in life, and those quiet pleasures were part of what made him who he was.

He is survived by his daughters, Kacie (Kevin) Gable and Kelli (Corey) Gilreath; and his wife, Vickie Adams. He also leaves behind his brother, Waymon Scoggins, sister-in-law, Tina Scoggins; and his aunt, Margaret (Danny) Abrams. Gene’s memory will be treasured by his grandsons, Liem Hudson and Corbin Gilreath, as well as by his nephews, Zack Scoggins and Zack Millsap, who held a special place in his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Scoggins and Sylvia Harrelson Rickman, and by his sister, Michelle Scoggins.

In keeping with his wishes, Mr. Scoggins will be cremated and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date and updated here as soon as service details have been finalized.

Gene’s life was marked by perseverance, devotion to family, and a love for the open road. He will be remembered with love by those who knew him, and his memory will remain in the hearts of his family and friends.

The Salmon Funeral Home & Crematory staff are honored to serve and care for Mr. William 'Gene' Scoggins and his family.
