William Terry Murchison

William Terry Murchison, Sr., age 77, of Rome, GA, died Sunday evening, April 13, 2014, in a local hospital.

A native of Rome and Floyd County, Terry was born on May 4, 1936, the son of the late Winthrop William Murchison and Katharine Azalee Rogers Murchison. He was a 1955 graduate of Model High School, a veteran of the United States Army and attended Riverside Baptist Church. Prior to retirement, Terry was a truck driver with Heblin Construction. He also was associated with Toles, Temple and Wright Real Estate for a period of time and was a former Rome City Police officer. Terry was a licensed pilot, a member of the American Legion and the National Rifle Association. He was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves, the Atlanta Falcons and a lover of NASCAR, following the team of Tony Stewart.

Terry is survived by his wife, Betty Denning Murchison, to whom he was married on July 28, 1956; a daughter, Marla Moss of Rome; a son and daughter-in-law, William Terry "Bill" Murchison, Jr. and his wife, Amy, of New Hope, GA. Four grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a special cousin, Jeanette Treadaway and her husband, Ralph, of Adairsville, GA, also survive. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Joanne Holbert and her husband, Harold of Deerfield, Fla.

A Celebration of Life for Terry will be held on Thursday evening, April 17, 2014, at 6:00 p.m. in the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Lambert officiating.

The family will receive friends at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel Funeral Home following the service. At other hours they will be at the residence.
